Mexico City Metro Sets Early Weekend Closures on Line 1 as Line 3 Sees Crowding

System tests on the ChapultepecObservatorio segment trigger 10 p.m. shutdowns with RTP buses covering late service.

Overview

  • The STC announced that Line 1 will end service at 22:00 on Saturday–Sunday, Oct. 18–19, and Oct. 25–26, to conduct integrated tests ahead of full reopening.
  • Last departures on those days will leave at 21:30 from Pantitlán and Chapultepec, and riders are advised to plan for longer travel times.
  • RTP buses will operate from 22:00 to midnight between Pantitlán and Chapultepec to cover the early closure period.
  • Line 3 experienced high passenger volumes on Oct. 17, with users reporting waits up to 15 minutes; the Metro reported an average six‑minute train advance and dispatched empty trains to busy stations.
  • Officials say Line 3 requires urgent modernization that would follow completion of Line 1 works, with no closure date announced.
