Mexico City Metro Line 3 Restored After Fatal Hidalgo Track Incident

Passengers faced long waits earlier after a unit was pulled for inspection.

Overview

  • Authorities briefly suspended Line 3 at Hidalgo for rescue maneuvers after reports a woman had gone onto the tracks, later confirming her death.
  • Minutes later, the STC said train circulation was reestablished and all stations on the line were providing service.
  • Earlier in the day, the STC removed a train for inspection, slowing operations as riders reported waits of up to about 40 minutes and at least one evacuation.
  • STC director Adrián Rubalcava said empty cars were dispatched from Indios Verdes toward Hidalgo and Balderas, and from Universidad toward Zapata, Centro Médico and Balderas to relieve crowding.
  • La Jornada reported more than 104 failures and delays across several lines since May 6, while the Metro union has warned about budget shortfalls and a possible work stoppage.
