Mexico City Metro Announces ‘Cero Pirotecnia 2025’ Security Operation for Sept. 9–17

The effort targets pyrotechnics in stations to reduce risks during the Independence Day festivities.

Overview

  • STC Metro will run a time‑limited enforcement campaign across all 12 lines to block the transport, sale and ignition of pyrotechnic devices during the Sept. 15–16 celebrations.
  • Security measures include patrols at accesses, use of Garrett metal detectors, constant video monitoring and coordinated deployment with the SSC, Policía Bancaria e Industrial and Policía Auxiliar.
  • Stations prioritized for tighter controls include Fray Servando, Merced, Candelaria, Jamaica, Allende, Zócalo, Pino Suárez, Bellas Artes, Balderas, Salto del Agua, and the terminals Indios Verdes and Cuatro Caminos.
  • Actions extend to trains, corridors and station entrances, with restrictions on entry for people in a state of intoxication or under the effects of toxic substances.
  • Violations inside Metro facilities can draw fines up to 2,171 pesos or 25–36 hours of arrest, with possible referral to a civic judge, and users are urged not to bring pyrotechnics into the network.
