Mexico City Launches Locatel Access in Mexican Sign Language via Live Interpreters

Officials say trained interpreters will handle video calls during weekday hours initially, with a goal of expanding to round-the-clock service.

Overview

  • Residents can connect through the portal 311locatel.cdmx.gob.mx, with service running Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 18:00 at launch.
  • The channel offers videoconference assistance for the tarjeta incluyente, disability-related procedures, fee condonations, general city services, and emergency guidance.
  • The tool was co-developed by the Digital Agency for Public Innovation, Locatel, the city disability institute, and representatives of the deaf community.
  • Authorities cite INEGI data estimating roughly 160,000 people with hearing disabilities in the capital as the need driving the rollout.
  • Locatel says users will receive direct, personalized attention in Mexican Sign Language from trained interpreters without intermediaries, with capacity planned to scale.
