Overview
- The program targets diverting more than 4,400 tonnes of daily waste from final disposal by expanding reuse, recycling and energy recovery.
- Authorities will roll out the Separa en 3 campaign in October with designated collection days for organics, recyclable inorganics and non-recyclable inorganics.
- Households that present the wrong fraction on the wrong day will not have it collected, and correct separation will earn rewards through the Mercomuna program.
- The city earmarked 405 million pesos for infrastructure including an upgrade to the Bordo Poniente compost plant, four new compost facilities, two automated sorting plants, up to 10 hydrothermal carbonization modules and a tire-processing plant.
- Plans include purchasing 34 collection trucks for about 85 million pesos and creating an Agency of Integral Waste Management to coordinate operations and oversight of large generators.
