Mexico City Keeps 'Hoy No Circula' in Effect on Christmas Day

Valle de Toluca remains in a no-fine rollout through December before sanctions begin January 1.

Overview

  • Environmental authorities issued no special suspension, so the program runs as scheduled on Thursday, December 25.
  • Vehicles with green sticker, license plates ending in 1 or 2, and holograms 1 and 2 are restricted, with foreign-plated cars following their termination-based weekday limits.
  • Vehicles used for medical transport under permit may circulate, and clean-technology or electric cars are exempt.
  • In the Valle de Toluca, the scheme operates from 05:00 to 22:00 with a socialization phase through December and fines beginning January 1, 2026.
  • In Mexico City, violations carry fines of 20–200 UMAs (about 2,262.8 to 22,628 pesos) and possible impoundment, and drivers can verify their status via the city’s '¿Qué días no circulo?' tool.
