Mexico City Judge Tosses Amparo Naming AMLO’s Sons as Duplicate of Case in Zacatecas

The court applied the bar on duplicate amparos, leaving an identical case pending in Zacatecas.

Overview

  • Judge Carlos Alberto Rico Mondragón of the First District Court in Criminal Matters in Mexico City dismissed the filing as inadmissible under Article 61, section X, in relation to Article 112 of the Ley de Amparo.
  • The petition, entered on September 24, sought protection for 16 people against arrest, incommunicado detention, forced disappearance, or death, and listed FGR, SSPC, and various federal judges as authorities.
  • The filing also named naval officers Fernando Farías Laguna and Miguel Ángel Solano, who have been cited in investigations into a customs-related fuel‑theft scheme.
  • Andrés Manuel and Gonzalo López Beltrán and their attorney denied promoting the amparo, one listed petitioner asked a court to dismiss it for lack of consent, and the lawyer reported filing a criminal complaint over possible irregularities.
  • Parallel amparos remain under review in Zacatecas and Villahermosa, and authorities informing those courts have said there are no orders against the López Beltrán brothers, while two other petitioners have withdrawn.
