Overview
- CDMX’s Secretariat of Citizen Security, through its Cyber Police unit, warned about a sentimental fraud scheme called “Novias Virtuales.”
- Scammers impersonate attractive personas using fake profiles on social networks, dating apps or gaming platforms to build trust before exploiting victims.
- Once trust is gained, perpetrators request confidential data, intimate images or money, and some victims are persuaded to grant remote access to devices or accounts.
- Authorities urge users to verify identities via early video calls, avoid sharing personal data or intimate content, refuse money requests, enable two-factor authentication and never install unsolicited files.
- Suspected cases can be reported to the Cyber Police at 55 5242 5100 ext. 5086, via [email protected], or through the SSC_CDMX and UCS_GCDMX social accounts.
