Overview

  • The city government amended the operating rules of the Instituto de Vivienda (INVI) to institutionalize its public rental housing initiative.
  • Officials aim to deliver at least 20,000 affordable rental units over the five-year administration.
  • An initial 600 million pesos will fund design and construction of new buildings in Buenos Aires, Centro Histórico, El Rosario and Tacuba.
  • Rents under the program will be capped at 30% of household income, roughly 3,000 pesos for minimum-wage earners and 7,500 pesos for those on three minimum wages.
  • Authorities are finalizing eligibility criteria and will prioritize low-income families, young people, older adults, single mothers, central-city workers and recently displaced residents.
