Mexico City Extends Permanent Driver’s License Through 2026, Expands Hours and Weekend Sites

To meet demand, the city expanded service to late evenings with weekend modules available.

Overview

  • Semovi confirmed availability through December 31, 2026 and extended weekday service to 21:00, with some modules open on Saturdays.
  • A macromodule at Ciudad Deportiva operates on Sundays from 09:00 to 21:00, and fixed and mobile locations include Central Insurgentes, División del Norte, Galerías Plaza de las Estrellas and designated Walmart and Soriana parking lots.
  • The new permanent credential authorizes only private automobiles; motorcyclists must use A1 or A2 licenses or an older permanent license that included motorcycles.
  • The process requires an online appointment via the Semovi platform using a Llave CDMX account, official ID and proof of address, a printed appointment and payment of about 1,500 pesos, and it must be completed personally without intermediaries.
  • Eligibility is limited to current Type A license holders, with conditional access for some State of Mexico residents subject to requirements such as the theoretical evaluation.
