Mexico City Extends Permanent Driver’s License Program Through 2026 at MXN 1,500

Officials cited overwhelming demand and said proceeds will go to a mobility trust for transport and safety projects.

Overview

  • The window to obtain the permanent license runs until December 31, 2026, which authorities describe as the scheme’s current closing date.
  • Access is barred for drivers with more than one Conduce sin Alcohol sanction, those with sentences for traffic crimes, or licenses canceled for serious infractions.
  • Applicants with biometrics on file can complete most of the process in the App CDMX, while first-time applicants must register biometrics and pass the type A theory exam.
  • Payments made in 2025 remain valid for 2026 appointments, which are booked through SEMOVI’s online system using a Llave CDMX account; scheduling is free and officials advise against paid intermediaries.
  • More than 1.39 million licenses have been issued and over MXN 2.3 billion collected to date, with funds directed to a trust for public transport, road safety, cycling infrastructure and electric buses.
