Mexico City Enforces Jan. 1 ‘Hoy No Circula’ for Green-Sticker Cars With Plates Ending 1 and 2

Officials direct drivers to the official portal for real-time rules as CAMe could expand restrictions if it orders an ozone contingency.

Overview

  • The restriction runs from 5:00 to 22:00 across all 16 boroughs of Mexico City and 18 conurbated municipalities in the State of Mexico.
  • Vehicles with green sticker (engomado verde), plate endings 1 and 2, and verification hologram 1 or 2 are barred from circulating.
  • Exempt vehicles include those with holograms 0 and 00, electric and hybrid cars, motorcycles, taxis, public transport, emergency units, disability-plated vehicles and cars with valid tourist passes.
  • Violations are enforced by SSC-CDMX and SEMOVI and can draw fines of 20–30 UMA plus towing to an impound lot.
  • Authorities reaffirm the criteria after a conflicting media report and advise checking hoynocircula.cdmx.gob.mx or Cuenta Llave CDMX for updates, including any CAMe-ordered Doble Hoy No Circula.
