Mexico City Electoral Institute Sets Jan. 15 Single Call for Participatory Budget 2026–2027 and COPACO Elections

The move uses a newly finalized citizen-participation map of 1,851 territorial units to unify and streamline the process.

Overview

  • IECM said it will publish the unified convocation on January 15 to run the participatory budget consultations for 2026 and 2027 together with COPACO elections.
  • Both exercises will operate under the 2025 Citizen Participation Geographic Framework, which covers 1,851 units: 1,764 colonies or housing complexes, 69 pueblos, and 18 barrios originarios.
  • A 2025 Territorial Units Catalog will be deployed, produced in coordination with the Secretariat for Indigenous Peoples and Original Neighborhoods, Mexico City alcaldías, and the National Electoral Institute.
  • The IECM’s Provisional Commission for Anticipated Votes will set up procedures to receive early opinions from residents abroad, people in preventive detention, bedridden persons, and their primary caregivers.
  • The IECM previously approved the integration of 16 Alcaldía Reviewing Bodies to assess the legal, technical, financial, environmental, and community feasibility of proposed budget projects.
