Mexico City Day of the Dead Parade Set for Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. on Reforma-to-Zócalo Route

Some U.S. organizers are downsizing public gatherings over immigration-enforcement fears.

Overview

  • The Mexico City parade begins Sunday at 2:00 p.m. local time, starting at Puerta de los Leones and proceeding along Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Juárez and 5 de Mayo to the Zócalo.
  • The multi-hour procession will feature floats, giant Catrinas, music and dance, and livestreams are expected although the official broadcaster has not been announced.
  • Mexico’s tourism ministry projects more than 1.6 million visitors for Nov. 1–2, an increase of about 2% from 2024, with higher hotel occupancy forecast.
  • UNESCO recognized Día de los Muertos as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008, and core traditions include ofrendas with marigolds, photos, sugar skulls and pan de muerto.
  • U.S. observances continue nationwide, including San Francisco’s 44th Mission District procession and the Marigold Project’s Festival of Altars, alongside museum programs such as the Delaware Art Museum’s sixth annual event, while Sonoma replaced its public celebration with an altar lighting over safety concerns.
