Mexico City Committee Endorses Mónica Viétnica Alegre to Lead PAOT Ahead of Thursday Vote

A final vote by the Mexico City Congress is set for Thursday following a unanimous committee endorsement.

  • The congressional environmental committee approved the opinion 6–0–0 naming Alegre the best-qualified candidate for a four-year term covering 2025–2029.
  • Evaluations placed Alegre first with 398 out of 420 points, ahead of Benjamín Alejandro Cervantes Pérez with 366 and María de Lourdes Pérez Hernández with 333.
  • The approved dictamen will be presented to the full Congress at Donceles for a ratification vote on Thursday.
  • Alegre’s agenda includes supporting the General Development Plan and the General Territorial Ordering Program, establishing interagency protocols for urgent animal welfare cases, and ensuring public transparency in PAOT’s resource management.
  • She also proposes that PAOT’s technical studies be used as binding evidence for Sedema and Invea in noise and tree-felling procedures, drawing on two decades of experience at Sedema, Profepa, PAOT, ASEA, and Conabio.
