Mexico City Closes Central Metro Stations for Oct. 2 March Until Further Notice

Officials ordered the shutdowns to manage crowds during the Oct. 2 commemoration.

Overview

  • Zócalo/Tenochtitlán (Line 2) and Pino Suárez (Lines 1 and 2) were closed by the Metro and remain shut until further notice.
  • The Metro also closed Tlatelolco (Line 3) at 16:11 due to heavy crowds outside the station, advising riders to use La Raza and Guerrero as alternatives.
  • Additional stations listed as closed include Allende and Bellas Artes (Line 2), Merced (Line 1), and San Juan de Letrán (Line 8), with no reopening time given.
  • The march marking the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre advanced along Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas, and the SSC’s road unit reported the progression and suggested detours such as Insurgentes and other corridors.
  • News outlets at the scene reported disturbances, including looting and the use of firecrackers by a so‑called bloc, with authorities urging riders to plan ahead and follow official updates.
