Mexico City Bans Reforma Christmas Fair as Guadalupe-Reyes Operation Begins

Officials move to manage December pilgrimages by shifting displaced vendors to a temporary Zócalo site.

  • The city will start its Guadalupe-Reyes operation on December 5 to handle the influx to the Basilica of Guadalupe, coordinating Health, Civil Protection, Security, Locatel, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Animal Care Agency and the Gustavo A. Madero borough.
  • Mayor Clara Brugada confirmed the traditional Romería Navideña will not be allowed on Paseo de la Reforma this year.
  • Authorities plan to allow more than 1,000 indigenous artisans to sell around the Zócalo from late Saturday, December 6, or Sunday, December 7, through Monday, December 15, pending a final agreement and after an event led by President Claudia Sheinbaum on Saturday.
