Mexico City Authorizes 1.50-Peso Fare Increase for Concessioned Route and Corridor Transport

The city tied the change to safety commitments, pending Gaceta publication.

Overview

  • SEMOVI announced the adjustment after negotiations with SECGOB, SAF and leaders from FAT, Mova and CISA.
  • The update excludes the Metrobús system, which stays at 6 pesos, and in some routes fares will move from 8 to 9.50 pesos.
  • The increase takes effect the day after publication in the Gaceta Oficial, and units must display the authorized fare or the change will not apply.
  • Operators accepted conditions including a visible Type C license, no tinted windows, civil liability insurance, plate numbers on the livery, regular maintenance and functional safety devices, plus uniforms, cleanliness and training.
  • Transport unions paused planned blockades but still seek fare alignment with the State of Mexico’s 14-peso minimum and fuel support, arguing the sector’s finances are unsustainable.
