Mexico City Airport Clarifies Photo Rules After Viral Complaint

Photography is permitted in public spaces, with prohibitions in security areas based on long-standing rules.

Overview

  • The pilots’ association said circular 9/2025 was an internal reminder for flight crews rather than a new AICM-wide directive.
  • Airport sources reaffirmed that taking photos is allowed in common areas such as pre-security halls, counters, and waiting rooms.
  • Photography remains prohibited in restricted zones, including security checkpoints, X-ray screening points, migration and customs facilities, aircraft ramps, baggage and cargo areas, and food-preparation spaces.
  • Using phones or other communication devices in customs-restricted areas can result in fines of MXN 16,040 to 21,380 under Article 192 of the Customs Law.
  • The clarification follows a social-media claim by comedian José Ramón San Cristóbal that security personnel made fans delete photos taken with him.
