Mexico City Activates Digital Transit Card in Overhauled App CDMX

Using NFC on select Android and Huawei phones, the rollout streamlines transit access ahead of Mexico City's 2026 World Cup preparations.

Overview

  • The virtual Tarjeta de Movilidad Integrada now works for Metro, Metrobús, Cablebús, Trolebús, Tren Ligero and metropolitan services, with RTP slated to be enabled in early 2026.
  • The feature is currently limited to NFC‑capable Android and Huawei devices, and officials say iPhone compatibility is under development.
  • Authorities report more than 60,000 virtual cards issued since launch, and the App CDMX counts about 10.3 million downloads with 2.2 million monthly active users.
  • Activation requires a Llave CDMX account with identity data and an initial top‑up of roughly 15 pesos, with recharges available via CoDi or debit and credit cards.
  • The update debuts a redesigned app with an ajolote logo, six-category layout and integrated transport and civic tools, and the city plans new information modules, totems and Wi‑Fi at transfer hubs.
