Overview

  • Mexico’s SEP calendar, published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación under agreement 18/06/25, sets 185 days for basic education from September 1, 2025 to July 15, 2026 with winter break December 22–January 9 and Easter break March 30–April 10.
  • Chicago Public Schools will open August 18, 2025 for kindergarten through 12th grade and August 19 for preschool, concluding June 4 for K-12 and June 3 for preschool across four academic terms with designated winter and spring recesses.
  • Illinois districts retain autonomy under the State School Code’s 176-day attendance minimum, allowing varied start dates and term structures that typically extend to about 185 instructional days.
  • Argentine provinces, following the Federal Education Council’s 190-day mandate, will resume classes the first Monday after winter recess—August 4 for Buenos Aires and CABA, with other provinces on staggered dates.
  • The coordinated calendar releases reflect governance models that blend national or state mandates with regional discretion in shaping academic year structures.
