Mexico Certifies 16 Tequila Producers With 'Hecho en México' Quality Mark

The rollout launches a push to extend certification across roughly 200 producers to bolster domestic value chains.

Overview

  • The Secretaría de Economía, through its Dirección General de Normas, granted the certification in a ceremony in Jalisco led by Alberto Uribe Camacho.
  • The first group covers 85 brands, which may now use the national-origin label and access federal catalogs, programs and training tied to the mark.
  • The Consejo Regulador del Tequila partnered in the process, with president Aurelio López Rocha and director general Ramón González Figueroa participating in the rollout.
  • Officials framed the initiative as a way to increase national content and strengthen competitiveness in response to trade pressures, including a deficit with Asia.
  • Certified companies include Agroindustria Guadalajara, Casa Tequilera de Arandas, Tequila 7 Leguas, Tequila Orendain, Tequila Centinela, La Cofradía, and Diageo México Comercializadora.
