Mexico Canta Reveals First U.S. East Semifinalists and Finalizes Broadcast Schedule

The initiative spotlights emerging Mexican and diaspora talent through weekly live shows promoting anti-violence, anti-addiction messaging.

Overview

  • The Secretaría de Cultura announced eight semifinalists from the U.S. East region during the presidential morning conference on July 18.
  • Weekly live regional semifinals will air Sundays from August 17 through September 28, leading to the October 5 grand finale at Mexico City’s Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris.
  • More than 18 public and state broadcasters—including Canal 22, Canal 11, Capital 21 and IMER—will carry the competition alongside digital streaming on official Cultura platforms.
  • Over 5,000 video submissions from Mexican and Mexican-American artists aged 18 to 34 were narrowed down through state and regional eliminations to 48 semifinalists across six U.S. and Mexican zones.
  • Launched under President Sheinbaum’s “México canta por la paz y contra las adicciones” program, the contest aims to revalorize diverse musical genres and strengthen cultural ties with the diaspora.
