Mexico Canta Names U.S. West Semifinalists for Binational Music Contest

Having trained at Watersound Studios in Los Ángeles, the eight semifinalists are set for regional semifinals in mid-August.

  • The Secretaría de Cultura announced Janine, Brian Muñoz, Mishel Domenssain, Mike León, MurieL, Asália y Norma, Tony Carreta and Priscilla Félix as the U.S. West semifinalists.
  • The competition, led by the Government of Mexico, aims to spotlight Mexican and Mexican-American artists aged 18 to 34 across genres without glorifying violence.
  • Semifinalists recorded their three-minute performances under expert guidance at Watersound Studios, marking the first in-person phase after closing online eliminations.
  • Regional semifinal rounds will be televised from August 17 through late September across Mexico and the U.S., culminating in an October 5 grand finale at Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris.
  • Launched under President Claudia Sheinbaum’s peace and anti-addiction initiative, México Canta uses music to offer youth constructive cultural outlets and counter narratives of violence.
