Overview
- The national weather service says the heat wave will persist for four to five days, with extreme readings above 45°C in Guerrero, Michoacán, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán.
- A mid‑level anticyclone, which is a dome of high pressure that blocks cloud cover and traps heat, is driving the dangerous temperatures across much of the country.
- Cold Front 49 is colliding with the hot air over the north and is set to bring torrential rain, large hail and a tornado or whirlwind threat in Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Coahuila, where special red alerts have been activated.
- About 15 more states, including Sonora, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco and Colima, are forecast to reach 40°C to 45°C under the same hot pattern.
- Health and civil protection agencies advise avoiding sun and strenuous activity from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and following local warnings for heat and severe storms.
