The SMN keeps the baseline start of the 2025–26 cold-front season around September 15. A 96-hour SMN forecast indicates the first front could arrive earlier between late August and early September through the northeast, initially affecting Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. Forecast impacts include sharp temperature drops, heavy to very heavy rain, wind gusts near 40–60 km/h, electrical activity and possible hail. SMN estimates 51 to 56 cold fronts this season, with most systems between November and February and typical durations of five to seven days over Mexico. Cenapred and Protección Civil recommend layered clothing, avoiding unsafe heating sources and following SMN and Conagua updates due to higher respiratory-illness risks during cold spells.
