Overview
- The upgraded CURP adds a digital photo, fingerprints, iris scan, electronic signature and a QR code for verification, while keeping the 18-character identifier.
- Pilot modules are operating in Mexico City and other states, with CDMX enrollment by appointment at a RENAPO site in Colonia Juárez and a PDF acknowledgment sent to the applicant’s email.
- Issuance is set to begin nationwide in October 2025 and use becomes mandatory for many procedures from February 2026 under a DOF-backed reform.
- Banks, health services, government platforms, social programs, education and migration procedures are listed to require the biometric CURP once integration deadlines apply, with fines of 10,000–20,000 UMA for noncompliant entities.
- The decree requires explicit consent to register biometrics, and authorities are expected to clarify by October 16 whether a physical credential will be issued or if verification will rely on the QR format.
