Mexico Becomes Top U.S. EV Supplier as 2024 Output Doubles, Report Says

A new EvolvX report attributes the surge to foreign investment and a mature supply base.

Overview

  • Mexico shipped 145,000 electric vehicles to the United States in 2024, overtaking Japan, South Korea and Germany as the leading supplier, according to EvolvX.
  • National EV output roughly doubled last year to about 220,000 units, while exports to the U.S. tripled compared with 2023.
  • EvolvX highlights a charging shortfall, noting roughly 40 light EVs per public charger in Mexico and calling for a faster buildout.
  • Through September 2025, Mexico produced 171,749 electric and hybrid vehicles, up 42.5% from the same period a year earlier, the AMIA reported.
  • Exports are concentrated in models from General Motors (Blazer EV, Equinox EV), Ford (Mustang Mach‑E), Stellantis (Wagoneer S) and Toyota (Tacoma hybrid).
