Overview
- Backed by the CNBV’s Circular Única de Bancos, all institutions must enable the MTU control in their apps and online banking from October 1, 2025.
- The MTU lets each user set a maximum for digital movements across SPEI, CoDi, service payments, card payments and interbank transfers, with daily, weekly or monthly options.
- Using the tool is optional for clients, but banks must offer it, and transactions above a user’s MTU can be blocked until the limit is adjusted.
- If no limit is configured by September 30, banks will apply a default of 1,500 UDIS (about 12,800 pesos) and, starting January 1, 2026, may assign or adjust an MTU based on a customer’s transaction history.
- Some banks, including HSBC México, already allow editing the transfer cap in-app, and existing low-value limits for CoDi/Transferencias Express/Dimo continue separately from the MTU.
