Mexico Auto Output Slips as October Exports Drop, Sales Hold Up

U.S. tariff pressure is weighing on export volumes.

  • In October, light‑vehicle production fell 3.72% year on year to 367,870 units and exports declined 5.45% to 314,227, even as October marked the highest monthly output of 2025.
  • Year to date through October, production edged down 0.69% to 3,389,424 units and exports decreased 1.45% to 2,881,399, while domestic sales were essentially flat at 1,204,823 units with a 5.99% gain in October to 129,736.
  • The United States accounted for 78.7% of export destinations in the first ten months, followed by Canada at 11%, Germany at 3%, and Colombia at 1.1%.
  • Several manufacturers reported sharp year‑on‑year production declines, including Volkswagen (-16.3%), Honda (-13.3%), Mazda (-10.7%), Stellantis (-8.7%) and Mercedes‑Benz (-7.6%).
  • Electrified vehicles gained share in October, with hybrid, plug‑in hybrid and electric sales rising 23.3% to 13,607 units, or 10.5% of total sales.
