Mexico Auto Output Falls 6.1% in September, With Slight Year-to-Date Slippage

Industry leaders cite U.S. tariffs plus T‑MEC uncertainty as the main pressures on output.

  • Mexico produced 355,525 light vehicles in September, down 6.1% year over year, and exported 314,656 units, a 0.3% decline, according to INEGI/RAIAVL.
  • For January–September, production totaled 3,021,554 units (−0.3% year over year) and exports reached 2,567,172 (−0.9%).
  • General Motors cut September output 16.9% and Volkswagen fell 17.7% following stoppages, while Mazda also declined; Nissan, KIA, Toyota, BMW and Mercedes‑Benz lifted production by shifting mix or markets.
  • Hybrid and electric vehicle assembly decreased 5.6% in September to 15,971 units, marking a second straight monthly drop.
  • AMIA notes September and the year‑to‑date tally rank as the second‑best levels on record for those periods, while AMDA argues official sales are understated and estimates Jan–Sep retail growth of 4.5% when non‑reporting brands are included.
