Mexico Approves 180-Day Permits for Federal Transport to Operate Without Plates

The QR-coded, VIN-labeled passes carry full legal effect to maintain service continuity.

Overview

  • The measure, published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación, takes effect on October 8, 2025.
  • It applies to vehicles under federal permits across autotransport modalities, auxiliary services, and private transport.
  • Permits must be displayed visibly and include the vehicle identification number plus a QR code linked to SIAF and the circulation card.
  • Each permit is valid for 180 calendar days from issuance and is legally equivalent to metal license plates during that period.
  • SICT may add security features such as seals or emblems, allows balizamiento as complementary identification, and will notify operators about plate delivery procedures.
