Voces desde el aula: los procesos de la NEM

Overview

  • Mexicanos Primero released “Voces desde el aula” on August 21, a qualitative study capturing teachers’ and principals’ experiences with the 2023–2024 rollout of the Nueva Escuela Mexicana in Jalisco, Michoacán, Sinaloa and Yucatán.
  • Educators credit the model’s project‑based approach and expanded autonomy, yet many say they lack the preparation, experience and support needed to implement it well.
  • Operational problems reported include training mostly limited to Consejo Técnico Escolar sessions, unclear guidance and heavy paperwork, late or insufficient textbooks—including for students with disabilities—and uneven connectivity and infrastructure.
  • With limited official training and accompaniment, some teachers turned to EduTubers and other online resources for practical guidance on applying the model.
  • The group warns of stagnation or regression in core skills such as reading comprehension and mathematics and urges stronger teacher development, reliable delivery of materials and connectivity, and curricular continuity before the 2025–2026 school year.
