Mexico Forces Dismantle Illegal Fuel Site in Guanajuato as Patrols Seize Arms After Attacks

Authorities transferred detainees with seized materiel to prosecutors for follow-up investigations.

Overview

  • Guardia Nacional patrols working with Pemex located and dismantled an illegal fuel supply point near the La Piedad toll booth in Guanajuato.
  • Officers secured a clandestine tap and about 5,600 liters of stolen fuel, plus two large storage tanks, 14 containers, two motorcycles and three vehicles reported stolen.
  • One person was detained at the Guanajuato site, informed of legal rights and placed at the disposal of the Ministerio Público along with the seized fuel and equipment.
  • In Cotija, Michoacán, Guardia Nacional and Army patrols came under fire near Cerro del Lobo; the attackers fled, leaving four assault rifles, 1,377 rounds, 43 magazines, a fragmentation grenade, five vehicles and tactical gear.
  • In a separate operation in Escuinapa, Sinaloa, joint forces repelled an armed attack, detained three suspects and secured five long guns, 41 magazines and other equipment, later turning the case over to the FGR.
