Mexican Army Patrol Ambushed in Apatzingán; One Attacker Killed, Two Arrested

Security forces seized a large cache of rifles during the operation with troops continuing a manhunt for other suspects

  • Armed civilians opened fire on an Ejército Mexicano and Guardia Civil reconnaissance patrol in La Piedra at around 5 p.m. on July 25.
  • Soldiers and police returned fire in a clash that lasted several minutes.
  • One assailant was fatally shot and two suspects were detained at the scene.
  • Authorities confiscated three 7.62×39 mm rifles, one .223 caliber rifle, 450 cartridges and 15 magazines.
  • The detainees and seized weapons have been turned over to the regional prosecutor’s office while troops press on in the search for remaining gunmen.
