Metzler Case Inmate Withdraws Consent, Halting Parole Review

The Kassel court will revisit a possible release only if the prisoner files a new application or renews his consent.

Overview

  • The defense informed the court on October 7 that the prisoner no longer consents to continuing the release proceedings.
  • On November 3 the Landgericht Kassel decided that conditional release will not be considered in the absence of his consent.
  • A court-ordered risk assessment was completed by early July 2025, and the Frankfurt prosecutor’s office opposed suspension of the life sentence based on that report.
  • He applied for early release in 2024, and a 2019 ruling set a 23-year minimum term that expired in September 2025.
  • The review can resume only upon a new application or renewed consent from the inmate, or if the prison authority initiates proceedings with his agreement.
