Overview

  • Jonathan Pintaro, 27, earned his first major league promotion when the Mets selected him from Double-A Binghamton after signing him out of independent ball in Montana last year.
  • He ranks as the Mets’ 22nd prospect according to MLB Pipeline after posting a 3.40 ERA in 11 Double-A starts this season.
  • Although predominantly a starter, Pintaro has worked in three-to-five-inning relief stints and relies on a plus-rated cutter alongside an upper-90s fastball, sinker, sweeper and changeup.
  • To free up roster space, the Mets designated left-handers Richard Lovelady and José Castillo for assignment.
  • Left-hander Brandon Waddell was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse as New York continues to recalibrate its injured bullpen.
