Mets Activate Jose Siri, Start Him in Center After Five-Month Layoff

His return offers a needed boost for a lineup searching for stability in center field.

Overview

  • New York reinstated Siri from the 60-day injured list Tuesday and inserted him into the starting lineup in center field against Philadelphia.
  • Siri returns roughly five months after a broken left tibia in mid-April, following a late-summer rehab in which he hit .269/.321/.462 over eight minor league games.
  • With Tyrone Taylor still on the injured list, Siri is expected to handle most center-field starts, particularly versus left-handed pitching.
  • To make room, the Mets optioned Jared Young to Triple-A Syracuse, designated Wander Suero for assignment, and, according to local reporting, outrighted Justin Garza to Triple-A.
