Metropolitano’s Vía Expresa Grau Begins Controlled Passenger Trials

A six-day marcha blanca will test signaling, automated doors and station operations to clear the way for a planned December commercial launch.

Overview

  • Emape and the Autoridad de Transporte Urbano will run controlled passenger trials from Thursday, Oct. 1 to Tuesday, Oct. 6, operating daily between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • The trial corridor will run bidirectionally between Estación Central and Parinacochas, serving the Central, Abancay, Andahuaylas and Parinacochas stops.
  • Agencies say the tests will let technicians calibrate radio signaling, verify automated door control and measure traffic flow and real passenger demand under operating conditions.
  • Operational details vary slightly by source: Emape reports two buses per day with roughly 20-minute projected departures while the ATU has cited an approximate 15-minute frequency; authorities plan continued controlled operation through October and November.
  • The 2.8-kilometer segregated corridor was built by the Municipalidad Metropolitana de Lima through Emape with nine signalized intersections and feeder links to terminals in Lima Norte and Lima Sur, and fares will remain S/3.20 for troncal trips and S/3.50 for integrated trips.
