Innovative exhibition "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" to showcase 250 rare historic and contemporary garments at Metropolitan Museum of Art starting May 2024, aiming to restore life into fragile pieces using cutting-edge technology, immersive sensory activations, and creative contextual displays highlighting cyclic regeneration of fashion and nature.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute has revealed "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" as its 2024 Met Gala theme and exhibition, showcasing approximately 250 historic and contemporary garments in newly innovative and immersive displays, reflecting on the cyclical regeneration of fashion and nature.
Curator Andrew Bolton explains that the 'sleeping beauties' in the title are fragile, historic garments in the museum's collection that require specific preservation conditions to maintain their integrity; these garments will be displayed in tandem with modern pieces that mirror their designs.
The showcase will implement cutting-edge technology such as holographic projections, sensory activations including scent, and creative presentation to reinvigorate these pieces, aiming to give a new sensory experience beyond simply visual appreciation.
The exhibition will weave a narrative around the intersection of nature and fashion, progressing through galleries organized by themes of nature and aiming to highlight the role of nature in fashion, both as inspiration and as a resource to be utilized and preserved sustainably.
