MetroHealth to Close Six Outpatient Sites Oct. 3 as It Consolidates Services

The system cites charity-care costs topping $1 million a day as the driver for the consolidation.

Overview

  • Closures set for Oct. 3 include Broadview Heights Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, the Old Brooklyn dental clinic, Medina Health Center, Rocky River Medical Offices, State Road Family Practice in North Royalton, and Westlake Physical Therapy at the West Shore Family YMCA.
  • Patients with affected appointments are being notified, and questions can be directed to 216-MY-METRO (216-696-3876).
  • Many services and employees will shift to larger MetroHealth locations, where the system says it will expand offerings and hours to streamline care.
  • Leadership attributes the move to a sharp rise in uncompensated care that has roughly doubled since 2022, with Board chair Dr. Harry Walker voicing support for acting now to protect patient care.
  • The closures follow July layoffs of about 125 mostly administrative employees and are part of a broader stabilization effort that also includes plans for a new main-campus outpatient center with a 24/7 pharmacy in early 2026.
