Overview

  • Metro Vancouver ended air-quality advisories for northeast and southeast Metro Vancouver and the eastern and central Fraser Valley after levels tied to heat, smoke and local emissions eased.
  • The Sailor Bar wildfire, about 120 hectares roughly seven kilometres north of Yale, remains out of control and has triggered evacuation alerts from the Fraser Valley Regional District and the Spuzzum First Nation.
  • Environment Canada reports highs of 37 to 39 C this week for the Fraser Canyon and South Thompson after a weekend that set more than 20 daily heat records, including 40.3 C in Lytton.
  • The BC Wildfire Service says hot, dry weather and low relative humidity are raising fire danger, with a slight lightning risk expected to increase through the week.
  • Forecasts suggest some cooling by mid to late week, and special weather statements for above-seasonal temperatures remain in effect for much of Vancouver Island.
