Overview
- Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a once-daily Metro-North round trip between Grand Central and Albany-Rensselaer starting in the spring, the first commuter link on this corridor since 1967.
- The extension pushes the Hudson Line roughly 80 miles beyond Poughkeepsie, continuing usual stops to Poughkeepsie then serving Rhinecliff, Hudson and Albany-Rensselaer.
- Metro-North expects fixed fares near the lower end of Amtrak’s one-way prices at about $40, with exact pricing still to be set.
- The new run is planned to leave Grand Central mid-morning and return in the afternoon, offering a lower-cost option to Amtrak’s variable pricing.
- The measures respond to capacity lost during East River Tunnel repairs that cut New York–Albany service earlier this year, with Amtrak adding a Dec. 1 daily round trip and projecting full tunnel reopening by late 2027.
