Metro Line 6 Targets H2 2026 Launch Using Elevated Pit Lines, With Kanjurmarg Depot Delayed

An elevated yard will handle daily upkeep; Mandale will handle major overhauls.

Overview

  • MMRDA plans to open the 15.31‑km Swami Samarth Nagar–Vikhroli corridor in the second half of 2026 without relying on the Kanjurmarg car depot.
  • Eight elevated pit lines at the Vikhroli end, plus single pit lines at stations where feasible, will support routine inspection and maintenance.
  • Rakes will be ferried to the Mandale depot for scheduled periodic overhauls to bridge the gap until a full depot becomes available.
  • The Kanjurmarg depot remains tied up in approvals for salt‑pan land, a contractor has been cleared for about ₹509 crore, and build‑out is expected to take two to three years after handover.
  • Initial operations are planned with six to eight rakes running every six to eight minutes, as construction of the elevated deck along the Eastern Express Highway and station works progress.
