MetaMask Rolls Out Google and Apple Logins for Creating and Recovering Wallets

The company says the approach keeps user control intact by requiring a password plus Google or Apple credentials to unlock the SRP locally.

MetaMask now lets users create a crypto wallet with Google or Apple accounts

Overview

  • The feature went live on Aug. 26 and lets users sign in with a Google or Apple account and then create a unique password to set up a wallet.
  • MetaMask now generates the Secret Recovery Phrase in the background and stores it on the user’s device, recoverable only with the same social credentials plus the password.
  • The company says no single party, including MetaMask or the identity providers, can assemble all components needed to retrieve a user’s SRP.
  • Lost passwords cannot be recovered, so users remain responsible for securing access to their wallets.
  • The launch aligns with a broader adoption push that includes the planned MetaMask USD (mUSD) stablecoin and a Banxa-powered card, and it has prompted interest alongside caution about reliance on centralized logins.
