Overview
- Meta will add text and voice interactions with Meta AI to the signals used to tailor feeds, Reels, group suggestions, and advertising across its apps.
- User notifications begin on October 7, the change takes effect on December 16, and there is no opt-out for people who use Meta AI.
- The rollout starts in most regions but excludes the United Kingdom, the European Union, and South Korea as Meta continues regulatory engagement.
- Meta says conversations about sensitive categories such as religion, politics, health, sexual orientation, or racial or ethnic origin will not be used for ad targeting, and WhatsApp’s encrypted treatment is unchanged.
- Signals may also come from other AI features like Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, and the company says Meta AI now exceeds 1 billion monthly users.
