Meta to Use Meta AI Chats to Personalize Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp by December 16

Interactions will count as recommendation and advertising signals only for accounts linked in the Center of accounts.

Overview

  • Meta will begin notifying users on October 7 via in‑app alerts and emails ahead of the December 16 rollout.
  • Text and voice conversations with Meta AI will shape which posts, Reels, groups and ads a person sees across its platforms.
  • Meta says it will not use conversations about religion, sexual orientation, politics, health, racial or ethnic origin, philosophical beliefs or union affiliation to target ads.
  • Voice features will only activate the microphone with user permission during active use, and an on‑screen indicator will be visible.
  • Only interactions from accounts a user has added to the Center of accounts will inform cross‑app personalization, and users can adjust the impact through Ad Preferences and feed controls.
