Overview
- Notifications about the change begin Oct. 7, 2025, ahead of a Dec. 16 rollout in most regions that Meta says could touch more than one billion monthly users of Meta AI.
- Voice or text interactions with Meta AI will serve as additional signals—similar to likes or follows—to shape what posts, Reels and ads people see across Meta apps.
- Conversations about religion, sexual orientation, political opinions, health, race or ethnicity, philosophical beliefs and union affiliation will not be used for ad targeting, and voice use requires microphone permission with a visible indicator.
- People who engage with Meta AI cannot opt out of this data use, though they can adjust Ad Preferences and feed controls; those who do not use Meta AI are not affected.
- Cross‑app personalization from Meta AI depends on accounts being linked in the Center of Accounts, and Europe and the U.K. will follow separate timelines under local rules.
