Overview
- Meta will begin notifying people on October 7, and only interactions from December 16 onward will be used.
- Text and voice chats with Meta AI will be combined with signals like likes and follows to shape recommendations across linked Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger accounts.
- Encrypted messages are not affected, and Meta says it will exclude sensitive topics such as religion, politics, health, sexual orientation, race or ethnicity, philosophical beliefs and union membership from ad targeting.
- The initial rollout will skip the European Union, the United Kingdom and South Korea as Meta continues talks with regulators.
- Meta reports about 1 billion monthly users for Meta AI and says it does not currently plan to place ads inside chatbot conversations.
