Meta to Temporarily Shut Down Threads in Turkey

Meta will temporarily close its Threads platform in Turkey starting April 29 due to a temporary injunction issued by the Turkish Competition Authority.
The injunction targets Meta's practice of linking user data between Threads and Instagram without user consent, citing abuse of market dominance.
Previous fines include a $18.6 million penalty in 2022 for similar data-sharing practices across Meta's platforms.
Meta plans to appeal the decision but will comply by either deleting or deactivating Turkish users' Threads profiles in the interim.
The shutdown does not affect other Meta platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp in Turkey.
